Overview of Techniques you will learn in a workshop series….

1.                  The Five-Minute Writing Sprint-Pick a subject (any subject), set the kitchen timer or your watch for five minutes, and begin writing.  Stop when time is up. So who said writing takes up too much time?

2.                  Character Sketch-A description of another person, or of yourself, or a part of yourself

3.                  Springboards-A sentence or question written at the beginning of your journal session to help you focus and clarify. A jumping-off point

4.                  Clustering-Free association off of a central word or phrase.  An excellent technique for managing projects and generating creativity.

5.                  Captured Moments-Brief vignettes that capture the sensations of a particularly meaningful or emotional experience.

6.                  Time Capsule-May be kept daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually.  A review of the time period, covering the significant events.  Creates a personal history.

 

7.                  List of 100-Write of 100 fears, beliefs, problems, reasons, tasks, ideas.

8.                  Dialogue-A written conversation in which you write both parts.  You can dialogue with anyone or anything.

9.                  Stream of consciousness-Write whatever shows up out of your pen.  Don’t consciously think about it. 

10.               Topics du jour- Write about the same topic every day for a month.  Or write down 31 topics and about them in order, throughout the month.

11.               Inventory-Make a list of the most important areas or projects in your life.  Then write a paragraph or two about each one.  Where are you now, where do you want to be and what will take you from here to there.

12.              Guided Imagery-Take yourself on a trip, anywhere at all.  Meet up with a wise person. Ask questions, listen for answers.  Receive a gift. Write it down.

13.               Unsent Letters-Write letters to people you’re mad at, intimidated by, shy around.  Don’t plan to send them.

14.              Artmaking-So what if you can’t draw a straight line? This is for you. Try a collage if you get stuck.

15.               Dream Logs-Your life becomes transparent when you start paying attention to what goes on in your non-waking moments.  Log your dreams and write what meaning they may have in your life.

16.              Perspectives-Alter your point of view by writing as if you were someone else, or by propelling yourself backwards or forward in time.

17.              Inner Wisdom-Access a meditative state through deep breathing or visualization and request guidance from the part of you that holds your truth.

 

**Note: Other activities are often incorporated into the workshop for creative purposes. You can expect some poetry exercises as well.**
